As part of their work to engage the local community in social/ sporting activities, Diaspora Development of Djarkpanga Togo (DDDT), organised a football tournament in a local village on the 4th December 2022. All of the people of Djarkpanga came together to watch the matches. The children in Djarkpanga, who have an avid interest in football were inspired to want to become footballers themselves. They were delighted that their football tournament coincided with the football world cup.
Eleven teams took part in the tournament, these were:
- Atchika
- Kpangame
- Dogode
- Solide
- Vu Sambowoude
- Okou
- Gmaladema
- Manpoula
- Bolgatanga
- Gonmede
- Matchatom
FC Atakora’s coach, Hassan Tarawerre, supervised the matches within the tournament. The tournament had a brilliant turnout from residents within Djarkpanga. There was lots of support and parents cheering the teams on.
Atchika and Gmaladema were the two teams to play in the final. They played a tough match with a final score of 4:3 to Atchika. Well done Atchika!
The winning teams’ prize comprised 2 footballs, a football kit and a trophy, all sponsored by DDDT. The winning team were presented with their trophy by the deputy mayor of Djarkpanga at the end of the tournament.
All other teams that participated in the match received a new football provided by the DDDT.
The players who took part enjoyed the football so much, they are asking when the next tournament will be held? The parents and supporters really got excited by coming together as a community to support the children. They expressed their thanks to DDDT for organising the event.
