What was the Problem?
The schools in Djarkpanga have no toilets for the children and teachers to use. Children have to go to neighboring houses or head back home to use the toilets which is really disruptive to their learning.
How did DDDT Help?
DDDT donated £4,000 to fund a new toilet block for one school in Djarkpanga. The money helped to build the foundation for the toilet block, hire plumbers to install the toilets and sinks, and provide cleaning supplies to keep the toilets clean. The toilet block now comprises 2 female and 2 male toilets plus an additional toilet for the teachers.
What have the outcomes been?
The children and teachers were very happy to see their new toilet block. There is less disruption to the school day with children and teachers being able to easily use the toilet block instead of leaving school during the day.
We are really pleased that we have managed to help one school with their toileting needs. However, there are still five schools in Djarkpanga that don’t have a toilet block and children are still having to head home to use the toilet during the school day. We are hoping to raise enough funds soon so that we can build toilet blocks for the remaining five schools so that they have the facilities in place to enable children to focus on their learning.
