Food Support for Vulnerable Families

What Was the Problem?

In Djarkpanga, Togo, many families continue to face significant food insecurity due to economic hardship and limited access to stable income. Vulnerable households — including those with children are struggling to provide for their families — often lack the resources to meet their basic nutritional needs. Hunger remains a daily challenge, affecting the health, stability, and overall well‑being of the community.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, DDDT Charity identified a clear need for immediate food assistance to support families experiencing the greatest hardship.

How Did DDDT Help?

To address this need, DDDT Charity organised a targeted food distribution initiative designed to deliver essential supplies directly to the most vulnerable households.

Key steps included:

  • Identifying and selecting families most in need through local community networks
  • Procuring and packaging essential food items within a carefully managed budget of £600
  • Distributing food supplies to 75 families on 18th March
  • Working closely with local representatives to ensure a fair, transparent, and well‑organised process

With an average spend of just £8 per family, the initiative demonstrated strong cost efficiency while maximising the number of households supported.

What Have the Outcomes Been?

The food distribution brought meaningful, immediate relief to 75 vulnerable families in Djarkpanga. The initiative helped:

  • Improve access to nutritious food for children and adults
  • Reduce short‑term hunger and hardship
  • Strengthen trust and connection within the community
  • Provide stability for households facing severe economic pressure

Although the limited budget meant that not all families in need could be reached, the impact on those supported was significant. The initiative highlighted both the effectiveness of targeted assistance and the ongoing need for continued support to reach more households experiencing food insecurity.
