Fundraising Campaign for new Sixth Form classrooms/ resources

Following on from the August 2023 visit to Djarkpanga, DDDT trustees are now launching their fundraising campaign to provide a more appropriate building for the Sixth Form Students to study in. Students aged 16-18 attend the Sixth Form, where they study A-levels before attending university. There are currently 1,152 students in attendance, of which 747 are boys and 385 are girls.

During the August Trustee’s visit to the Sixth Form, they saw first-hand the poor conditions the students endure daily (please take a look at the photos). Improving education in Djarkpanga is one of the Charity’s highest priorities, with the lack of facilities and equipment really impeding students A Level studies. When it rains, the teachers have no choice but to send children home until it is safe and comfortable for them to return. It rains frequently in Djarkpanga, so the students’ schooling is interrupted a lot. Space is also very much in short supply. If you compare the equivalent western school, there would be a whole range of school buildings for 1,152 students. The currently available classrooms are very small and students are cramped together, mostly standing, as there is insufficient room and seats for students to be comfortable. The current students do exceptionally well to study in these conditions, but the DDDT Trustees recognise that their ability to succeed and go on to better life outcomes could be transformed by improving the buildings. Included in this project costing are important resources to make a real difference to the students who are taught here.

The Diaspora and DDDT are currently jointly seeking to raise funds for the Djarkpanga sixth form. They need to raise £45,000 (costs as at December 2023) by December 2024 to fund the building of a new sixth form building, provide books, resources and other equipment.

Providing an improved education facility and essential equipment will vastly improve the educational outcomes of Djarkpanga’s sixth form students.
